The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has issued a final festive rallying call to parents, as tickets which offer the best way of avoiding the queues when visiting Santa with your little ones are almost sold out!  The last few tickets are now available on the heritage railway’s Santa Specials, which include an on-board grotto!

“For many families, the thought of queueing for an hour or more in a shopping centre for a momentary glimpse of Father Christmas is enough to fill them with dread, but for those who board the Santa Express, it is a fantastic journey for the whole family – a relaxing and pleasant experience for children and adults alike,” comments marketing manager, Laura Strangeway.  “All of the children are given colouring sheets and Santa hats to keep them busy on the round trip, and are collected from their seat by Santa’s helpers to take them down the carriages to a special ‘Grotto on Wheels’ where they can share any Christmas gift requests, and take away a present, too.”

Indeed, refreshments are provided at a station along the way – warm mince pies and hot drinks, with a tipple offered to adults – before families are returned to their starting point after a stress-free trip.  “The views from the train are lovely at this time of year, and whilst we can’t promise that children will spot a reindeer along the way, there is plenty of other wildlife out on the moors during the winter months,” adds Laura.

Only a handful of tickets remain available for December services on the 28 & 29 departures from Grosmont.  The round trip lasts around an hour, and costs £16.00 per person.

Tickets are also selling extremely fast for ‘Flying Scotsman’ trips in March 2016.  The North Yorkshire Moors Railway will offer train enthusiasts one of the first opportunities to ride in a carriage pulled by the world-famous locomotive when it returns to Yorkshire following its £4.2 million overhaul.  The engine visits the railway between 12 and 20 March 2016, and over 85% of tickets have already been snatched up by fans eager not to miss this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“This is the perfect Christmas gift for a train enthusiast, and we’re hearing the local accommodation in booking up, too, as people make a special trip from every corner of the country for the Flying Scotsman experience,” says Laura.  “Two of our Camping Coaches have already been booked by fans who want to see the train passing their bedroom window each morning, so we’ve only got availability in one coach – the newly refurbished Levisham – available.”
