Saturday 29 June and Sunday 30 June

It’s time to don your flares and boogie back to the ’70s as the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) relives the disco decade with a fab line-up of live music, treasure trails, classic cars and a real ale bar at its stations on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June.

The Super 70s Boogie Wonderland weekend forms part of the NYMR’s 40thanniversary celebrations and with fantastic feel-good songs performed live by ABBA tribute band Abalicious and glam-rockers, The Glamned, at Levisham station each day from 12 to 4pm, dancing on the platforms and enjoying a drink from the real ale bar will be only part of the fun.

The NYMR’s incredible 40-year old story, which began the year Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree topped the charts (1973), will be told through photos and displays in the Education Centre on Platform 2 at Pickering Station, while at Grosmont Station, visitors will be able to take part in a 1970s fun activity trail with a chance of winning a fantastic prize.

The journey back in time continues at Goathland Station where a collection of classic cars that defined the decade but can now only be seen on programmes such as Heartbeat or reruns of The Sweeney, The Professionals and Minder will be on display.

“The 1970s marked a turning point for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. In 1973, eight years after the infamous Beeching Report forced its closure, the hard task of bringing the Grosmont to Pickering line back to life began.  Forty years on, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has become the world’s busiest steam heritage line welcoming more than 350,000 passengers a year, travelling between Pickering and Whitby.  What better reason could we have to dance, disco and have the time of our lives?” says Danielle Ramsey, marketing manager.

As services are expected to be particularly busy throughout the ‘70s Festival, visitors wishing to travel are advised to pre-book their tickets online at www.nymr.co.uk or call 01751 472508.

Ticket prices for return travel from Pickering - Grosmont are: Adults £19.50, Senior £17.50, Child £10.00, Family £39.00, Dog/bike £2.50.

Ticket prices for return travel from Pickering - Whitby are:  Adult £26.00, Senior £23.00, Child £13.00, Family £52.00, Dog/bike £2.50.
