14 & 15 December 2013

It may be his busiest time of year, but Santa has managed to squeeze in two extra services on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as demand has filled the seats on most of the heritage railway’s Santa Special services throughout December!

Two extra services have been added to the schedule on 14 and 15 December, which will see Santa hosting an extra special return journey from Pickering up the line beyond Levisham in vintage carriages pulled by a restored steam engine. The services depart at 9.45am, with the round trip through some of North Yorkshire’s finest countryside returning around an hour later.

“For any family who cannot bear the thought of queuing for a couple of hours in a shopping centre, this is the ideal way of making sure your child gets to share with Santa what he or she would like for Christmas in a stress-free environment,” comments NYMR’s marketing manager, Danielle Ramsey. “We often find that children give a more considered answer to ‘what would you like for Christmas’ here, too, as they have not just been hit with the bright displays and flashing lights of a retail outlet, and they can even ponder the decision during the journey!”

Included in the ticket is a hot or cold drink – with cream liqueur available for accompanying adults who fancy a seasonal tipple – and mince pie, and children all receive a present from Santa when they are taken through the vintage carriages to his grotto on rails. At Pickering and Grosmont stations, refreshments can be collected from signposted locations on Platform 2, whilst refreshments will be served on board the Whitby trains.

The last few tickets are also available for a couple of the earlier services from Pickering, Grosmont and Whitby, with a few places remaining on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December. Tickets for the 3pm service from Whitby on 1 December cost just £12 per person. “These services are especially popular with parents who don’t have a clue what their children would like for Christmas, as it leaves plenty of time to hunt around the shops for the latest must-have toy when children confide in Santa what they really want!” adds Danielle.

Tickets for the other Santa Specials are £14.50 per person, and must be booked in advance either online at www.nymr.co.uk, or by calling 01751 472508 Ext 242/244/252. Please note that the Santa Specials are always exceptionally popular, so visitors are advised to book early to guarantee their place.
