Steaming hot prizes in North Yorkshire Moors Railway Christmas Countdown

With just over two weeks left until Christmas is upon us, the team at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has been overtaken by the season of goodwill that they are giving away dozens of prizes in a special “12 Days ‘til Christmas” competition!

With prizes ranging from NYMR ‘driver’ caps to exclusive opportunities to ride alongside the driver and fireman (the person who shovels coal into the firebox) on the footplate of a restored steam engine, worth £175.  Each day, the railway’s very own Santa, Miss Holly and station mascots Tracker Jack and Ember the Cat will be posting a video message on the railway’s website and social media pages announcing the ‘prize of the day’ and telling visitors how to enter.

“We’ve had quite a few of our Santa Specials passengers asking Santa if they can drive the train, so this could well be a dream come true for our competition winners,” comments Danielle Ramsey, marketing manager for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.  “For twelve days, we’ll be offering some fantastic prizes, from NYMR hoodies to family tickets to ride during our 2014 season – or indeed, during the last few days of 2013, as we resume services after Christmas from 27 December right up until New Year’s Eve.”

Indeed, anyone looking to make a special request of Santa now has an extra opportunity to do so – with all the remaining seats on the Santa Specials between now and Christmas sold out, the railway has today (9 December) announced an extra service on Sunday 15 December, departing at 9.45am from Grosmont.  Tickets cost £14.50 per person, and include hot drinks and a mince pie for all passengers, with an on-board audience with Santa and a present for young visitors.  The return trip takes around an hour.  Places are expected to be filled very quickly, so should be booked online at www.nymr.co.uk or by calling 01751 472508, extns 242/243/244.

Services on the railway between Christmas and New Year run from Pickering to Grosmont – ideal for anyone looking for a day out to walk off some of the Christmas excess, as you can hop on and off at any station along the way, or even walk from one station to the next to jump onto a later train.
