Luxembourg, May 28, 2010  Northland Resources S.A. ("Northland" or "the Company") announces that on Tuesday May 25^th, and Wednesday May 26^th, as part of the final step in the application process for its Tapuli mine and Kaunisvaara mill ("the project"), Northland presented its Environmental Permit Application to the Finnish - Swedish Border River Commission ("BRC"). The BRC is the permitting authority responsible for granting the environmental permit to Northland.

 

Northland's presentation was well-received, and several aspects of the project were discussed during the hearing without any material changes requested by the reference authorities. Northland was commended by the relevant reference authorities of both Finland and Sweden present at the hearing, as well as the BRC, for having taken into consideration environmental and social aspects when designing the project.  Northland was also commended for providing an exemplary application, and an excellent presentation, and the authorities present expressed their support for the project.

 

Northland would like to acknowledge the constructive approach and the valuable input from the reference authorities of Sweden and Finland; this support will help Northland develop the project into a world-class operation.  Northland would also like to acknowledge the BRC for their professional guidance during this process and for the prompt processing of the application.

 

The BRC will publish their decision regarding Northland's Environmental Permit Application on August 20, 2010.  Northland is optimistic about receiving an Environmental Permit that includes well-balanced conditions and restrictions concerning the project's operations, thus enabling the start-up of construction of the Tapuli mine and the Kaunisvaara mill in accordance with our schedule.
