April 30, 2008:  Mr. Bill Wagener, the COO of Northland Resources Inc., is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Karl-Axel Waplan to the key position as Managing Director of European Operations for the Company.

 

Mr. Waplan will be taking on specific assignments for Northland at the start of May and will assume full responsibilities as Managing Director of European Operations at the beginning of August 2008. He will be involved in building the organization and providing the leadership to develop and operate Northland's planned iron ore operations in northern Sweden and Finland.  Engineering, design work, and permitting for the proposed operations are currently underway and Mr. Waplan will use his team to contribute technical, business and practical operational input to the design and construction phase.

 

Buck Morrow, the President of Northland, said "The addition of Karl-Axel to the Northland organization is a significant step forward in the building of the team that will operate the mining, processing and transportation facilities that are being designed and permitted.  We are excited to have his experience and knowledge available to us at this crucial stage in the Company's development.  He will play a central role in liaising with federal, county and local governments, communities and agencies.  He and his team will be instrumental in addressing the needs for rail, ports, and other connecting infrastructure for the proposed new mines."

 

He will be appointed to the positions of Managing Director and Director of Northland Resources AB and Northland Mines OY, and it is anticipated that he will be based in Stockholm with offices in Luleå.

 

Mr. Waplan has a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. In the late 90s he was Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Boliden Ltd, and a member of Bolden's Executive Management Committee. He was directly responsible for supervising the development of Bolden's Storliden mine. In 2003 he joined the management team of Sudamin Ltd. and was COO for the Ferro Alloys and Noble Alloys activities. He joined Lundin Mining Corporation in May 2004 as Executive VP Operations, and was President and CEO from April 2005 until January of this year.
