May 13, 2008:  Northland Resources Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Vladimir (Mirek) Benes to the position of Vice President of Exploration effective 1 May 2008.

 

Dr. Benes will have overall responsibility for directing the Company's exploration activities on its extensive portfolio of iron ore and base metal projects in Sweden and Finland.  His remit will also include evaluation of additional exploration opportunities in the Nordic Region that are complimentary to the Company's existing project portfolio, and will review selected exploration opportunities worldwide as they arise.  

 

Buck Morrow, President of Northland Resources, stated:  "Dr. Benes' experience in team building and management and his strategic view of exploration is a welcome addition to Northland's senior management group.  We also value his regional and Nordic exploration experience.  Mirek will be managing a well funded organization dedicated to an exploration plan that is aimed at Northland's goal of identifying one billion tons of iron ore.  We are looking forward to Mirek's expected successes in the future."

 

Dr. Benes was Vice President of Exploration and Development for Barrick Gold responsible for Russia and Central Asia after serving as Barrick's Regional Exploration Manager.  His responsibilities included management of Barrick's exploration teams and programs which lead to a discovery of 100Mt PGE-Ni Fedorova deposit at Kola Peninsula, NW Russia and 3Mozs gold deposit Unkurtash in Kyrgyzstan.  In addition, his responsibilities included regional corporate development and growth of the company through auctions, tenders, joint ventures and acquisitions in Russia and Central Asia.  More recently Dr. Benes was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of an exploration company with gold, copper and base metal projects in Peru and Turkey.  He has provided consulting services, due diligence and technical evaluation of gold, copper, base metal, molybdenum, nickel and chrome projects in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Peru in cooperation with a number of companies. 

 

Dr. Benes graduated in 1985 from the Charles University of Prague focusing on Geochemistry and Ore Deposit Geology.  He received a M.Sc. in Geology from the University of Toronto in 1991, followed by a Doctorate in 1995.  He is a citizen of both the Czech Republic and Canada and currently resides in Prague.
