In his Letter from the Chairman, Anders Hvide states that "Throughout 2011, we witnessed a series of successes at our Kaunisvaara project in Pajala, northern Sweden. In record time, about a hundred people completed the necessary infrastructure and prepared for the start-up of production in late 2012. What was considered to be almost impossible a few years ago has now become a model for other large-scale industrial projects."

Karl-Axel Waplan, President and CEO, concludes in his Letter from the President that "Besides our expert staff at Northland, we have opted to appoint some of the best known suppliers in each specialist area to assure successful progress. The goal is clear for all of us - ensuring that production starts up at the end of 2012. Then, we will have built one of Europe's most modern iron ore mines in the record time of two years, with deliveries to customers starting in 2013."
