Northland Resources S.A. : Northland Strengthens its Kaunisvaara Operational Management Team

Luxembourg, October 14, 2011: Northland Resources S.A. (TSX: NAU, OSE: NAUR, Frankfurt: NPK - "Northland" or "the Company") is pleased to announce four new key management appointments that will ensure continued progress of its Kaunisvaara iron ore project on time and on budget.  With the appointment of the following individuals, Northland is proceeding with the hiring of the operational staff.
 
Northland's Kaunisvaara senior management team has been strengthened with the appointment of Mr. Jan Rutqvist, as Planning Manager. Mr. Rutqvist has almost 30 years of mining experience and has held various positions with the Swedish mining company, Boliden, including strategic mine planning at the Aitik mine. Most recently, Mr. Rutqvist was General Manager at the Asarel Medet JSC copper mine in Bulgaria. Mr. Rutqvist will be responsible for production planning for the Kaunisvaara mining area.
 
Mr. Kjell Johansson has been with Northland for the last three years as a Senior Manager for Electrical Systems. Mr. Johansson has been appointed Area Maintenance Manager. Mr. Johansson has more than 40 years of experience in the mining industry with companies such as Boliden, ABB and LKAB in various management positions that focused on maintenance and electrical engineering.
 
Mr. Glenn Nilsson has been appointed Mine Production Manager, Tapuli. Mr. Nilsson brings over 30 years of mine experience from Boliden's Aitik mine, where he has held various roles with increasing responsibility. Since 1999, Mr. Nilsson was Mine Superintendent with responsibility for coordination of drilling, blasting, loading and haulage. Mr. Nilsson will be responsible for planning, organizing and providing oversight for the Tapuli mine operations.
 
Mr. Hans Andersson has been appointed as Mine Production Manager, Sahavaara. Mr. Andersson has a long and varied experience in the mining industry. Prior to joining Northland, he held various positions in Boliden since 1984 with responsibility increasing as he moved from mining engineer to production manager to mining executive. Most recently, he was Project Manager in Boliden, with a responsibility for the expansion and development of the Kankberg mine. In his new role, Mr. Andersson will be responsible for planning, developing and supervising the operation of the Sahavaara Mine. 
Northland is a development-stage mining company with a portfolio of iron ore projects in northern Sweden and Finland. The Company's Kaunisvaara Project will exploit two magnetite iron ore deposits in Sweden. The process will yield a very high-grade, high-quality magnetite iron concentrate. The construction of the Kaunisvaara project is well underway and production is planned to start in the fourth quarter of 2012. Northland has entered into industrial off-take contracts which will last for 7-8 years for the entire production from Kaunisvaara. The Company is also preparing a Definitive Feasibility Study for the Hannukainen Iron Oxide Copper Gold Project in Kolari, northern Finland. The study is expected late in the fourth quarter of 2011.
