Norwood Systems and Pumatech make it possible to access voice and data anywhere in the office EnterpriseMobilitytm integrated with Intellisync Anywhere and Browse-it increases mobility and contactability of the workforce Richmond-upon-Thames, UK - 11th December 2001 - Norwood Systems, developer of office networks for the wireless generation, announces today that anyone is now able to access voice and data wirelessly from anywhere in an office. This allows employees to be much more mobile in the office while maintaining access to voice and data applications critical for the business and not restricted to being tied to their desk. Norwood Systems and Pumatech are working together to give customers the ability to access information from all parts of the office. Users can synchronise calendars, download emails and browse web pages while away from their desk through personal devices. This makes them more accessible, more productive and fundamentally more mobile. At the Gartner Symposium/ITxpo on 9th October in Orlando, Gartner Group forecasted that, "By 2004, 60 per cent of mobile workers will be compelled to carry technologies that offer instant response by voice and hourly response by e-mail. Currently, there is not a determined timetable when mobile workers with cell phones and PDAs will respond to an inquiry. With emerging technologies, the response time will improve dramatically." This is exactly what Norwood Systems and Pumatech are making possible. Customers can now integrate Norwood Systems' wireless communications platform, EnterpriseMobility, with Pumatech's two-way synchronisation software, Intellisync Anywhere and its transformation engine, Browse-it, which turns HTML pages into content suitable for PDAs. Users can browse the Web on their PDA - seeing the whole page for the first time - and can access email, contacts and tasks as well as update their calendars without having to be at their desks. Through the agreement, Pumatech's large corporate customer base will now have the opportunity to purchase EnterpriseMobility to enable them to access voice as well as data wirelessly via Bluetooth. In a reciprocal arrangement, Norwood Systems' customers and prospects will be able to run Intellisync Anywhere and Browse-it with EnterpriseMobility. "We are able to give our customers access to information and voice anywhere at any time. Anyone who has a PDA is now able to use it to dial phone numbers wirelessly and be connected across a free Bluetooth network as well as be able to access web services and have his or her office applications updated without having to be tied to the desks," comments Jean-Paul Deschamps, co-founder, COO and VP marketing. "This relationship between Norwood Systems and Pumatech is symbiotic. It is a joint marketing and sales agreement that will benefit both of our sets of customers on a global basis. The combined Norwood Systems and Pumatech offering is a breakthrough in office data and voice communication over Bluetooth." Bob Bowden, Pumatech's EMEA marketing director, is delighted about the link up with Norwood Systems. "We are now able to provide our customers with an integrated wireless voice and data solution through this partnership. We give them the added benefit of being able to use the products without having to rely on updates only when they are at their desks. This agreement with Norwood Systems brings organisations the freedom to deploy the office wireless mobility solution of choice, immensely increasing the mobility of employees, while keeping them more in contact. This relationship is an excellent example of how we are enabling the real-time enterprise for our customers."
