9th July 2010 BUDDING DESIGNERS SEE THEIR IDEAS TRANSFORMED Five children from Whitegate School in Clifton visited Absolute Design in West Bridgford on Wednesday 7th July to see their design of a logo to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the East Midlands Conference Centre transformed. ‘Keiths Team’ from Whitegate Primary School were the winners of a competition launched by Nottingham Conferences in February of this year. They had already visited the East Midlands Conference Centre in May, where they were presented with a framed version of their logo and certificate from Chris Jagger, Chief Estates and Facilities Officer at The University of Nottingham, alongside thirty other teams from Whitegate, Dovecote and Milford Primary Schools. The team comprising Keith Wong, Zoellise Nicholson, Olivia Anderson-Rayner, Ryan O’Malley and Shauna Bales visited Absolute Design alongside the marketing team at Nottingham Conferences to see how their logo would be adapted for use on promotional materials. Paul Crosson from Absolute Design explained how he had adapted the logo devised by the team to enable it to be used by Nottingham Conferences. “I thought the concept the children had devised was great. The use of the key brand colours and elements such as the flag demonstrated how well they had understood the brief, but I was particularly impressed by the fact that they had made a visual connection between the shape of the EMCC building and the letter M.” Paul continued “Although we have tidied the logo up so that it can be used on the website and other planned promotional materials, the main elements remain and we have even managed to incorporate the mini stick men into plans for a digital hook. Keith’s team understood what we had done and were pleased with the end result” Leading the project, Kirstie Danzey, marketing manager for Nottingham Conferences explains; “The East Midlands Conference Centre has played host to a number of events in 25 years, with all profits going back into the University, as well as bringing a significant direct economic benefit into Nottingham. We felt that the competition would be a great way of celebrating this and further engaging with the local community. We are delighted with the final design which we feel manages to combine a real sense of celebration with the key elements of our existing brand and look forward to seeing it used on the website and other materials soon. ” - ends- For more information on Nottingham Conferences please contact Kirstie Danzey, Marketing Manager on 07717 814007 or 0115 8467718 or email kirstie.danzey@nottingham.ac.uk
