Nearly 25,000 entries have been received in less than a week after places opened for the 9th staging of the Bupa Great Manchester Run, which will take place on Sunday 15th May 2011.

The run, which has become the nation’s favourite 10k running event, was launched last Tuesday and entries have been pouring in since then. There are now less than 3,000 places available before the last 10,000 places are allocated to a ballot system. David Hart, communications director of organisers Nova International, said: “Since we first staged the Bupa Great Manchester Run back in 2003, it has really caught the imagination of the public and we are again amazed at the number of early entries. “We expect to switch to a ballot at the weekend, so we would urge anyone who wants to guarantee their place to sign up now via www.greatrun.org.” The Bupa Great Manchester Run will be televised live to the nation on the BBC and highlights will be broadcast in over 60 countries across the world. The weekend programme will again feature the Bupa Great Manchester CityGames which, in the last 2 years, has featured the likes of Usain Bolt and Tyson Gay sprinting down Deansgate on a specially constructed track.
