Hibernia Line’s new direct ferry route between Cork and Boulogne-sur-Mer will launch with a major investment in onboard connectivity, introducing next gen high-speed internet experience designed for both passengers and crew.

The new ferry service, operating six sailings per week between Ireland and France, can claim to be the most significant new maritime connection between Ireland and mainland Europe in recent years, marking the arrival of a brand new ferry company. Everywhere onboard, passengers will have access to fast, stable WiFi throughout the 21.5-hour crossing.

The onboard WiFi platform has been developed together with Swedish maritime connectivity specialist Nowhere Networks, one of Europe’s leading providers of high-performance internet solutions for ferries and passenger vessels.

Today’s passengers expect connectivity everywhere

The ambition is simple: to make staying connected at sea feel as seamless and natural as it does on land.

“This is a completely new route connecting Ireland and Northeastern France, and we wanted the onboard experience to reflect that from day one,” said Aidan Coffey, Founder and CEO of Hibernia Line.

“Today’s passengers expect connectivity everywhere - whether they want to stay in touch with family, stream content, work remotely or simply relax online during the crossing. We see high-quality WiFi as an important part of the overall travel experience.”

The service will include:

  • High-speed passenger WiFi throughout the voyage
  • Simple QR-code onboarding
  • Mobile-friendly login and payment portal
  • Flexible internet packages
  • Dedicated support flows onboard
  • Optimized connectivity for long-distance sea crossings

The rollout also includes upgraded connectivity solutions for crew operations and onboard administration, supporting communication, operational systems and crew welfare onboard the vessels.

“Connectivity at sea has become essential for both passengers and crew. Expectations have changed dramatically over the last few years,” said CG Sänne, CCO at Nowhere Networks.

“Longer crossings like Cork–Boulogne-sur-Mer create a completely different demand for reliable internet access. Hibernia Line is making a strong statement by treating onboard connectivity as a core offering from the very beginning.”

User-friendly Onboarding Portal

The solution combines onboard WiFi infrastructure, intelligent traffic management and hybrid maritime connectivity technology designed specifically for passenger vessels operating long routes across European waters.

Passengers will be able to access the service through a user-friendly onboarding portal with fast digital activation and easy payment options.

Hibernia Line has the capacity to carry more than 250,000 passengers annually on the new route between Cork and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
