How to Turn a Tear-Down Home into a Turnkey Masterpiece

The sellers of the Austin property transformed a rundown home into a $375,000 mid-century modern dream

AUSTIN, TX (November 18, 2016) – A completely renovated mid-century modern home has just hit the market in Austin’s Upper East side. The sellers, house flippers Sophia and Bill Taylor, purchased the outdated four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in July of 2016 for $225,000. Over the course of three months, the property was entirely renovated beyond recognition into a modern turnkey home. Now on the market for $375,000, the property at 4604 Bundyhill Drive has been listed by Coldwell Banker United, REALTORS® sales associate Paul Johnston of the company’s Northwest Austin office.

“Remodeling and redesigning homes is in my blood,” said Sophia. “My father learned from his father and I learned from my father. Now, Bill manages the finances and acts as an analyst for our properties, while I visualize the home’s transformation and oversee the interior designs.”

The couple has found a passion in transforming aged and dilapidated properties into warm and welcoming residences. The Taylors are currently renovating four other homes across Austin’s most desirable neighborhoods, with the next property scheduled to hit the market by the end of November. Johnston is the exclusive listing agent for each of the Taylors upcoming properties.

“It takes an incredible vision and eye for design to transform these fixer-upper homes into livable residences, but the Taylors have a gift for design and renovation,” said Johnston. “They’re investors with a heart and do a very thorough, careful job.”

Sophia oversees the interior design herself, while local contractors complete the construction. According to Johnston, the Taylors start the renovation process by ripping out the kitchen, the bathrooms and tearing down walls to open up the living spaces.

“We’re seeing a lot of millennial homebuyers moving to Austin, and one of the things they look for is an open floor plan,” said Johnston. “The Taylors are extremely mindful of the qualities a potential buyer will want in a home.”

The renovation process moves quickly as the demand for move-in homes in Austin is high. According to Johnston, the property has already received one offer to purchase and he expects the same fast pace for the Taylors’ other properties.

Renovations in the currently listed home include:

• New windows, new front door and a new sliding glass door leading to the back patio

• Updates to landscaping, new fencing, updated back patio, repaired exterior storage unit and new paint to the siding and trim

• Remove interior walls, remove and replace all interior baseboards, doors and windows

• New luxury kitchen with modern shaker style cabinets with brushed nickel pulls, granite counters, Samsung stainless steel appliances, glass tile backsplashes and a pull-out sink faucet

• Addition of a second master suite
