AUTOPREP 3 – NYFORS’s new automatic fiber stripping and cleaving device presented at Photonics West (Booth 5147)

At Photonics West 2017 in San Francisco, CA, NYFORS TEKNOLOGI AB (publ) is proud to present our new fiber preparation device - the AUTOPREP 3. The device is designed for automatic stripping and cleaving of fibers with extremely fast cycle times. The new unit comes with an integrated touchpad and WiFi capabilities.

The AUTOPREP 3 is a fully automatic, high-speed fiber preparation device that can strip, clean and cleave a fiber in less than 15 seconds. For this it uses a precise thermal stripping device that leaves a clean stripping area and retains a fiber strength of more than 30 N. The stripper employed uses a controlled hot air-flow that instantly vaporizes acrylate-based fiber coating. The cleaver uses our highly reliable tension and scribe technology, that achieves cleave angles below 0.5 degrees with minimal blade intrusion.

The AUTOPREP 3 has become significantly easier and faster to operate. Guided fiber holders easily place the fibers in the correct position and a “One Touch” go button starts the automatic preparation process. The newly integrated touchpad allows for simple and quick access to all relevant parameters. “The touchpad has made control of the device quick and intuitive. The device therefore no longer needs an external computer control to change parameters,” said Erik Böttcher, CEO of NYFORS.  The touchpad also allows the user to connect the device to a local WiFi network. This new feature makes it possible to directly share data or change the parameters remotely.

To ensure the high quality and repeatability, all processes of stripping, cleaning and cleaving are controlled by the built-in microprocessor. The device can process fibers with cladding diameters between 80 and 125 µm. Its compact table-top design allows it to be easily set-up and transported according to the users needs.

The AUTOPREP 3 will be further presented at Photonics West 2017, January 31st – February 2nd at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA.
