Over two intensive days, leading industry representatives will be highlighting technological developments and solutions that improve key high voltage maintenance programmes and asset management strategies.

On 4-5 April this year’s TechCon Aus-NZ event will be held in Sydney, on the South-Eastern coast of Australia. This is the 18th time the event will be held, and as in previous years it will include both a conference part and an exhibition. This year’s programme focuses on issues relating to the life management of HV & MV power equipment.Nynas has taken part many times and will also be involved in various ways this year. As well as a stand in the trade fair area, Chian Yaw Toh, Head of Technical Development & Market Support Asia Pacific, will be giving a technical presentation.

Under the heading of “Maintenance of in-service inhibited mineral insulating oils & inhibitor management”, he will discuss the function and role of inhibitor, or antioxidant as it is also known, in inhibited insulating mineral oil.

“A number of factors, including the operating conditions of transformers as well as the refining degree of the oil, will determine the inhibitor consumption during the in-service period and will affect the expected lifetime of the oil.  I will also present some recommendations with reference to the Maintenance Guide IEC 60422, as well as highlighting precautionary measures when topping up with inhibitor,” explains Chian Yaw Toh.

With TechCon being the leading meeting place in the region for large and medium-sized power electrical equipment and assets, most utilities, transformer manufacturers, contractors and suppliers will be present. Among the approximately 250 specialists taking part, there will be not only electrical engineers and asset and maintenance managers, but everything from business development managers and electrical equipment suppliers to service providers and manufacturers. This diversity makes it possible to address the issues that impact the industry, ranging from practical case studies to the latest research on asset management strategies for the ageing electrical grid infrastructure.

“TechCon is a unique opportunity to meet most of the players in one location. We attract a lot of visitors to our stand, many customers, partners and long-time friends, but also new ones every year. We receive technical questions, learn about new projects and listen to some new industry trends or drivers,” concludes Philippe Reboul, General Manager, Australia & New Zealand.
