Nynas will be giving two presentations at this year’s Transform event in Orlando, USA on 7-9 June, one about optimised transformer performance and one with a focus on insulating fluid specifications
Transform is an umbrella organisation consisting of nine leading European suppliers, including Nynas, from the transformer industry. Every other year the organisation holds an international event for key players from leading transformer manufacturers, utility companies and industrial enterprises.
One of Transform’s important objectives is to highlight technologies and sustainable solutions for both today’s transformers and those of the future. The issues that will be raised and discussed during the meeting in Orlando cover many relevant areas, including smart transformer monitoring, lifetime extension of transformers and a new generation of automated distribution transformer testing.
Nynas will be giving two presentations during this year’s gathering. Johan Grövik will discuss optimised transformer performance versus operational excellence of the insulating fluid, while Jayme Nunes, Senior Technical Coordinator Transformer Oils, will give a technical presentation under the heading of “Dielectric Performance of Different Insulating Fluids”.
The starting point for Jayme Nunes’ presentation is that nowadays there are several kinds of insulating fluids in the market with different electrical performances.
“The insulating fluid specification is mainly based on characterisation of the fluids in order to guarantee compatibility among the fluids that declare conformity to the same specification – mineral oils, esters, silicones, etc. – and between unused and in-service fluids,” he confirms, adding: “Simply complying with the specification is not a guarantee of good performance of the fluid. My presentation discusses the main differences between insulating fluids and the impact on the general performance of the transformer in order to provide the customer with the knowledge to choose the best fluid for their equipment."
