Glass is transparent and invites you to come and see it!

The worldwide leader in glass packaging, O-I has been partnering with its long-time client Bouvet-Ladubay to leverage the online reputation of glass through social networks

The « Life through Glass » worldwide photo contest, launched by O-I in partnership with French wine brand Bouvet-Ladubay on September 25th, has revealed its top 25 photos. Member of jury Alain Mingam, a world media award-wining photoreporter says: « The glass bottle is the genuine elixir setting that we’re used to having in all kind of situations celebrating life, love, friendship and even sadness. The photographer’s challenge deals with the ability to catch the beauty of glass, reflecting every moment of life ». He adds « Candidates chose to emphasize the transparency of glass by playing on shade and light ».

Besides Alain, who is also an agent for photographers, a curator for exhibitions and an active member of “Reporters sans Frontières”, the jury comprised well-known people such as the Swiss artist Peter Knapp, Brigitte Huard from Elle Décoration, Marie-Lys Singaravélou who owns a major art gallery in Bordeaux, and Patrice Monmousseau and Jean-Maurice Belayche, respective CEO and Public Relations Director at Bouvet-Ladubay, both keen on art. They all share a common passion: photo, art and wine.

Patrice Monmousseau, who is very involved in contemporary art, says: « What I enjoy in this project is how a wine brand and an industrial player can support two intimately related materials – glass and wine – by organizing a public art event through social networks in harmony with renowned artists and photographers ».

O-I has selected the art gallery MLS, located in the trendy area of Bordeaux Chartrons, to organize an exhibition of the top photos from November 28th until December 11th. « I like the idea that art belongs to everybody and that social networks can launch artists through a participative process », explains Marie-Lys Singaravélou from MLS Gallery. « More than 1,200 artists like you and me participated in the ‘Life Through Glass’ contest with 2,630 photos submitted that were liked 200,000 times and seen by 1,330 000 Internet visitors!  The virtual play is now taking shape in an exhibition. »

Taking the advantage of the Vinitech fair, O-I and Bouvet-Laduday are inviting their wine customers and the media to a private preview on November 27th. This special event will also be the opportunity for a conference covering the subject of how wine businesses can develop through social networks, with a key speaker expert in digital marketing.

Brigitte Huard from Elle Decoration is amazed: « Being part of the jury enabled us to compare different ways of writing on glass and wine by graphic, sensual, pictorial or commercial photo lay-outs. Glass provides an extraordinary understanding of special life moments and I had a great time reading the stories of all these photos. »

Glass is transparent but if you’re in Bordeaux at the end of the month, come and visit it with your eyes wide opened at the MLS gallery from November 28th until December 11th!
