O-I develops new look for Antiquary

The Antiquary Blended Scotch whisky range has hit the shelves with a revised multi-faceted glass bottle made by O-I in Alloa.

The premium brand, owned by The Tomatin Distillery Co Ltd, has three variants, a standard blend, a 12 year old and a super-premium 21 year old, which are all marketed in the new development. Initial sales of the 70 and 75cl sizes have been successful and O-I is now developing a new one litre bottle for the brand.

The glass developed by O-I features a large diamond shaped label panel, which is highlighted by triangular panels. The overall effect echoes a sparkling diamond, to illustrate the brand’s claim to be ‘a cut above’ due to the high proportion of malt whiskies contained in its blended recipes.

The container also features a long, cylindrical neck, allowing for a particularly deep, golden pilfer-proof closure. Pocket Rocket Creative designed the labels.

Colin Mason, NPD Innovation Manager at O-I Alloa, said, “This is a complex bottle to design and to make and yet its line performance is consistently excellent. Our investment in flexible bottle-making technology at Alloa offers lower volume, niche brands like The Antiquary, premium glass packaging with the benefits of mainstream, high productivity forming.”

Jennifer Masson at The Tomatin Distillery Co Ltd said, “Reaction to the new and improved design in our target markets has been very positive – we have taken the core elements of the original bottle and created additional shelf presence with its sharper form and increased height. Any whisky that wants to thrive on the global stage has to carve out a distinctive positioning. This diamond of a glass bottle from O-I, coupled with gift cartons and boxes which continue the diamond theme, provide just the point of difference we need.”
