Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) UNVEILS NEW MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE

Tampa, Fla. – In an effort to broaden its reach, the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC) has restructured its membership categories, now offering one category for individuals to join – Individual Membership. Previously, the OAC also offered additional membership categories specifically for professionals and physicians, which were accompanied with higher membership dues. In evaluating this structure, the OAC recognized that segmenting the categories provided no additional strength in our voice, as the OAC is about the individual affected by obesity and all who are concerned with the epidemic.

The OAC is proud to now offer one single category for individuals to join for just $20/year – Individual Membership. The OAC still offers two categories for companies and organizations to join – Institutional Membership and Chairman’s Council Membership. These categories allow companies/organizations to support the OAC at a higher level with additional membership benefits. With Individual Membership, members can expect to receive the following benefits:

  • Official welcome letter and membership card
  • Annual subscription to the OAC’s official publication, Your Weight Matters Magazine
  • Subscriptions to the OAC Members Make a Difference and Obesity Action Alert monthly e-newsletters
  • “Bias Busters” Alerts, alerting specifically to issues of weight bias (NEW!)
  • Immediate Advocacy Alerts on urgent advocacy issues and access to the OAC’s expert advocacy team
  • Ability to lend your voice to the cause

Members who wish to order the OAC’s educational resources in bulk are now able to purchase Educational Add-ons. You must be an Individual Member in order to purchase any of the educational add-on packages. The structure for the OAC’s Educational Add-ons is as follows:

  • Standard Package: 10-50 educational pieces/quarter ($50/year)
  • Deluxe Package: 51-100 educational pieces/quarter ($100/year)
  • Premium Package: 100-250 educational pieces/quarter ($150/year)

Members who want to order OAC resources year-round and do not want to be limited in terms of quantity are invited to join either the Institutional or Chairman’s Council Membership level. Both categories give the benefits of unrestricted ordering of OAC resources.

All current OAC members in the previous Professional and Physician categories have been automatically transitioned to Individual Members. These members will be able to continue their membership benefits (ordering of OAC’s resources) under the old structure until their membership is up for renewal.
