Sirius B: The first complete Windows 10 PC That Fits Into Your Pocket
New hardware brand Ockel crowdfunds a pocket PC with the size of a smartphone
The Dutch company, Ockel, introduces the first complete Windows 10 PC that fits into your pocket: the Sirius B. The energy efficient and silent device has the same size as a smartphone and weighs less than the iPhone 6, but has more than enough power to let you browse, e-mail, edit documents and stream media. To finance the first production run, Ockel will be launching a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, as from October 28. Supporters of the project will receive the white pocket PC before Christmas.
Ockel Sirius B is equipped with a fast Intel quad-core Atom Bay-trail processor, Intel HD Graphics and 2GB of RAM. Sirius B doesn’t require a fan, so users can enjoy working in silence. A 2.4/5.0 GHz Wifi card and Bluetooth 4.0 guarantee connection at maximum speed. The two USB-ports and an HDMI port make it easy to connect a keyboard, mouse, screen or other device. Included as well are a 3.5mm microphone and audio jack. Those who need more than 32GB of space can add a Micro SD card to store thousands of extra pictures, videos or documents.
The Sirius B was shown for the first time during IFA 2015 in Berlin, on the booth of Avanca International. Avanca, number two in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 list, is the driving force behind Ockel. “The trend that everything is or should be portable, the fact that everyone is connected 24/7 and the tremendous amount of media consumed motivated us to create Ockel”, explains Tim Haaksma, founder and owner of the new hardware brand. The Sirius B is the first device in a series of 4 products that will be introduced to the market. Two mini PC’s (Fusion H and Fusion C) and a 4K Ultra HD media player (Nebula) will follow later on.
A passion for everything related to the universe inspired the team in their search for a brand name. “We wanted to express our Dutch roots and we have several team members who are fascinated by the universe, including me”, clarifies Tim. Ockel is derived from the last name of Wubbo Ockels, a famous astronaut and the first Dutch citizen ever to be in space. The different Ockel products also carry names related to space. Sirius B is a well-known white dwarf star.
Ockel Sirius B will be available on crowdfunding site Indiegogo starting October 28. Ockel wants to raise at least 10.000 dollars to finance the first production run. Supporters of the project can expect their order before Christmas at a lower price than the estimated retail price of 185 euros. Those who are interested can sign up at www.ockelproducts.com for an exclusive early bird offer.
