The world’s most versatile Windows 10 Mini PC is taking Indiegogo by storm
Ockel raises 100.000 dollars in one day after launching its Sirius A project
A unique little device announced as “The world’s most versatile Windows 10 Mini PC ever created” is taking crowdfunding platform Indiegogo by storm. Dutch hardware start-up Ockel aimed to raise 100.000 dollars in 35 days to bring the project for the Sirius A to life, but reached that goal in one single day. The Ockel Sirius A is small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and is just as powerful as a desktop PC. It’s the third device in the successful Sirius line-up of Ockel. Early backers of the project, that is also officially supported by Microsoft, get a discount up to 29% off the future retail price and can expect the Ockel Sirius A in May next year.
Ockel integrated an extensive range of wired connection options into the Sirius A: two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, USB Type-C, DisplayPort, LAN and a Micro SD card slot. “We have created a device with a unique form factor and new functionality and have been able to include an incredible amount of connection options, without handing in on portability,” explains Tim Haaksma, founder and owner of the hardware brand. The Ockel Sirius A is the size of a large smartphone and is equipped with a 6-inch full HD touchscreen and built-in battery to enable unplugged and on-the-go use.
The wired options, combined with WiFi AC and Bluetooth, enable you to create a comfortable workspace within seconds. The Ockel Sirius A is equipped with an Intel Atom x7-Z8750 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal Flash storage and a full Windows 10 Home (64-bit) version, meaning it can run all x86 compatible Windows programs. The unique Switch Mode, developed in partnership with Microsoft, changes the Sirius A into an input device once you connect it to a screen. “We see the desktop and mobile market growing towards each other and want to give users a real PC experience with the benefits of a mobile device.”
The Ockel Sirius A is extremely versatile. It’s a complete desktop PC, but can also be used as a mediaplayer, gaming device or remote control for smart home devices. “The possibilities are endless,” says Haaksma. “We see backers joining our project who work in hospitals, own a business, are studying or just because they love radical innovation as much as we do.”
Last year, the first products in the Ockel Sirius line – the Ockel Sirius B and the Ockel Sirius B Black Cherry – were introduced as crowdfunding projects. More than 500.000 dollars were raised to develop the two devices. The feedback and learnings from that project inspired Ockel to create the Ockel Sirius A. Just like everything else around the Ockel brand, the name for the Sirius A is derived from space. “The Sirius A is the brightest star in the Earth’s night sky. Sirius B is the ‘little brother’, the white dwarf star. Ockel started small. Compare it to the size of the Sirius B. Now we are ready for the next step. And we want to make it a big one.”
Backers can join the Ockel Sirius A project here. Early adopters pay $499 instead of $699 for the Ockel Sirius A and the Windows 10 license. Ockel expects to ship the first units of the Sirius A in May 2017.
