Academy Award-Winning Creature Designer Funds Demon Noir Thriller Through Kickstarter
Campaign Success Launches the First Film in New Independent Film Franchise "Fire City"
With days to spare, Tom Woodruff, Jr., an Oscar-winning creature designer directing his first film, and writer-producers Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes, have successfully reached the $100,000 goal for their film "Fire City: The Interpreter of Signs," a demon noir fantasy thriller. The deadline to get cool prizes and even act in a role or be a demon is until Sunday, August 18th, 2013 at 5pm PST. www.FireCity.com/Kickstarter
"It's a brand new world, a new mythology," says Hayes, "where demons live among humans, who are incapable of seeing them for what they are." Unlike many major horror/fantasy franchises in recent memory, Fire City is intended for an adult audience craving something darker and more mature, and the production team is committed to filling the screen with practical special effects.
"In our recent history, the kind of world we know and love and have complete passion for, which is the practical world of creature effects, has been downplayed [by the studios] almost to the point of extinction," says Woodruff. "But the fans are behind us, and our Kickstarter campaign is evidence of that."
Preproduction will begin soon after the campaign ends on August 18. "There is still time for fans to become part of this moviemaking Renaissance and join the Fire City family," says Lubocki.
