High-level kickstarter fantasy franchise invites“non-Hollywood” professionals to live out their creative dreams

Those who dream of an alternative career or hobby in the film industry are typically discouraged by steep investment fees or the very low quality of low budgeted films. The budding phenomena of crowdfunding through websites like Kickstarter (http://kck.st/12CfFoh) is introducing an intriguing paradigm of pairing A-list talent, major Hollywood players and projects with those who would otherwise lack access to involvement. Academy Award-winning creature designer Tom Woodruff, Jr., who’s known for the amazing characters of the X-Men movies, Spiderman and the upcoming Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, is offering high-end “backer rewards,” as Kickstarter calls it, that would usually take serious connections in the business to attain. Contributors will have access to a day on the set, a speaking role in the film, or as a fully made-up special effects Fire City creature, as well as tickets to the Hollywood premiere, and much more. Woodruffs’s project entitled Fire City is a multi-platform franchise with a blueprint for four films. Its first comic book just premiered at this year’s San Diego Comic Con in conjunction with its Kickstarter campaign, and test footage and a short film promo can be seen online. The project has already attracted top talent including veteran line producer Dennis Stuart Murphy, responsible for keeping projects on-budget and on-schedule, known for FX channel’s The Bridge, Enough with Jennifer Lopez, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Friday The 13th Part 2. Their sound designer is Christopher Eakins who has worked on The Matrix Reload, The Expendables and The Expendable 2.

The SEC has been working on a version of investment opportunities that will be allowed through public crowdfunding, but in the meantime, Tom Woodruff’s Fire City is a great entre into the film business.

Backer rewards are limited and interested parties are encouraged to grab their most coveted dreams right away. The Fire City campaign only last a couple more weeks and their production is set for early January. Go to: FireCity.com/Kickstarter
