Film Franchise Releases "Fire City" Comic Book Online
The limited run of Fire City's comic was swallowed up by voracious fans in a matter of hours at this year's San Diego Comic Con
The Fire City (www.FireCity.com/Kickstarter) movie street team came to this year’s San Diego Comic Con to promote Fire City’s first comic book, passing out free comics, promotional frisbees, skull stressballs, t-shirts and more. The response was so overwhelmingly positive, that Fire City producers decided to release a free digital version of the comic book on their official website, FireCity.com. “We were descended upon so quickly, that we had to pass out our promotional items in waves,” said one of the street team members. “It was very cool to hear people talking about the project. They were genuinely engaged, not just wanting a free frisbee.”
Their kickstarter (http://kck.st/12CfFoh) fundraising campaign offers a hard copy of the comic book signed by the artist (Kurt Komoda), creature-legend and the film’s director Tom Woodruff, Jr., and the creators. Producers leaked that they gave first free access to all of their Kickstarter backers at any level. Their campaign has already raised 23% of goal in just four days, fighting against A-listers like Spike Lee. Producer Michael Hayes said, “We’re the little guys, and it’s an uphill battle against these big names with huge followings that come to cherry pick on Kickstarter.” www.kickstarter.com/discover/categories/narrative film/popular
