Roger Newnham, President of OnQuest Subsidiary Born Canada, Pens First of Three Books in Series

Los Angeles (August 16) – A newly published book by Roger Newnham, "Direct-Fired Heaters: A Practical Guide to their Design & Operation," offers audiences in the petroleum and petrochemical industries a detailed review of the design, maintenance, operation and servicing of direct-fired heaters.

"Direct-Fired Heaters" features detailed descriptions of the different types of direct-fired heaters and their uses in various applications, along with photos, diagrams, charts and a glossary of industry terms. The book also describes how to identify problems that may occur when operating direct-fired heaters and how to overcome them.

Author Newnham, president of OnQuest subsidiary Born Canada, has more than 35 years of experience in the design, engineering, fabrication and installation of heaters for petroleum refining and petrochemical companies worldwide. He has also been instrumental in developing controls and instrumentation and designing burner management systems for direct-fired heaters, along with burner revamps and maintenance of direct-fired heaters.

Edward Shepherd of Chevron Corporation, who served as chair of the Task Force on ISO 13705/API560 Fired Heaters for General Refinery Service, called Newnham “one of the most well-rounded experts in the field,” and said the book provides “valuable guidance to new as well as experienced owners and operators of fired heaters.”

Newnham's "Direct-Fired Heaters" is the "whole package," says Wiko Taviarto, Plant Reliability Section Head for Pertamina, the state-owned energy company in Indonesia. "I highly recommend it for workers engaged with the fired heater. It is a must-have for refineries."

The remaining two books in the series are in the final stages of completion. The second is an operator training manual; the third is dedicated to improving efficiency and lowering emissions. More information about "Direct-Fired Heaters" series is available at www.firedheaterbook.com.

Roger Newnham is a member of the Federation Europeenne d’Associations Nationales d’Ingenieurs (FEANI) and of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK). He graduated from Brighton University in Brighton, England. Newnham emigrated to Canada in 1980 and established Born Canada as an independent entity in Calgary, Alberta, to work with large oil and gas engineering, procurement and construction firms. Born Canada was acquired by OnQuest Inc. in 2007.
