Swedish County Councils choose op5 for Better Control and Measurability of IT Quality

[Stockholm, Sweden, May 10, 2007.] Västernorrland County Council and Kalmar County Council have purchased and installed op5’s system for control and measurability of IT systems. The County Councils handle a large number of various part-systems for their operations. By implementing op5’s system the County Councils can obtain a centralized and web based measurability of their internal part-systems. This is the foundation for qualified availability reports, follow-ups and long term quality improvement of the County Councils’ IT support.

Västernorrland County Council has purchased all three of op5’s products: op5 Monitor, op5 Statistics and op5 LogServer for control and measurability of their IT systems. Initially, the journal systems will be continuously monitored. The IT department is proactively notified if the systems do not deliver adequate quality. The IT department automatically receives availability reports per month, quarter and year. In addition, op5’s system will be integrated with other existing support systems, e.g. case handling.

Västernorrland County Council covers Sundsvall, Örnsköldsvik, Härnösand and Sollefteå, and its operations consist of three hospitals, around 50 health centres and a number of dental clinics.

Kalmar County Council has also purchased and installed op5 Monitor, op5 Statistics and op5 LogServer. With op5’s products the County Council obtains control of all its IT infrastructure through a single platform and can thus terminate some smaller products. This creates significant time savings. The County Council gets at generally better control and a structure of ongoing projects. The journal systems, the entire infrastructure (including LAN/WAN), and important data bases are specifically monitored. The Västervik, Oskarshamn and Kalmar hospitals are all in Kalmar County.

Open Source Attracts the Public Sector
op5 is one of the new generation of IT companies that challenge old, expensive and closed software solutions for operations, monitoring and handling of IT systems. With software based on open source customers can significantly reduce their costs for the initial investment as well as for the continuous maintenance, and get simpler, more flexible and more open systems. There is a strong trend both in Sweden and abroad that not only the private sector but the public sector as well evaluate – and install – software based on open source for these reasons.

– Through development and delivery of systems based on open standards the customers are guaranteed access to both the source code and continuous competence. Here lies the big benefits for all sectors, not least the public sector, said Jan Josephson, CEO, op5.

– For each individual County Council there are millions to be saved by evaluating new solutions and not believe that expensive equals best. With high demands for function, security and flexibility Kalmar County Council is a good example of our products’ quality in a larger context. And with several County Councils as customers we can exchange experiences and codes which makes the solutions even better with time, at no or marginal cost, said Jan Josephson.
