With increased attention to pedestrian safety and distracted driving issues in the rail and transit environment, Operation Lifesaver’s President and CEO Joyce Rose will talk to safety leaders about the organization’s efforts to target young people with rail safety and anti-trespassing messages.
Rose, along with Lindsay Colcombe, program manager for National Organizations for Youth Safety, will present a joint session at the 2013 National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders Conference. The gathering of more than 100 safety professionals provides an annual opportunity for highway safety professionals to promote safe traffic behavior and advocate for programs that help reduce crashes and injuries.
In 2012, 1,967 vehicles collided with trains at highway grade crossings throughout the United States, resulting in 271 fatalities. Trespassing along rail property cost the lives of more than 400 people in 2012. For more information about rail and transit safety, visit www.oli.org.
