PRIMULA BAKES WITH CASH FOR KIDS IN THE NORTH EAST

Report this content

Move over Mary Berry, the North East has been baking up a storm to raise funds for disabled and disadvantaged local children on the first ever regional Big Bake Day, 12 September.

Sponsored by Primula, Metro Radio and TFM hosted the event which encouraged Geordies, Mackems and Smoggies to get into the kitchen and organise bake sales in the workplace, community centres and school halls. From cupcakes to current buns, North Eastern bakers have been getting creative with their cooking while raising money for the charity.

To mark the start of Big Bake Day, Primula, Metro Radio and Courage the Cat visited Collingwood School and Media Arts College in Morpeth to deliver a special cake which also marked Primula’s 90thbirthday. The cake, shaped as a giant tube of Primula cheese, was presented to the school along with branded lunchboxes for the children containing a tube of Primula Kids and some other healthy goodies.

Paul Lewney, managing director of Kavli UK, the company behind Primula cheese, said: "Cash For Kids is a fantastic charity which does good for children living right here in the North East, which has been Primula’s home since 1936. We are proud to actively support this event.”

“Kavli UK is owned by the Kavli Trust meaning profits go to charity both home and away.  So every time you buy Primula you can feel good knowing you’r supporting good causes like this.”

Debbie Craig, Cash for Kids Manager, said: “The Big Bake Day was fantastic, raising cash throughout the day for sick, disabled and disadvantaged children right here in the North East. To be part of Primula’s celebrations was an honour and I am glad we were able to highlight the kind of school we love to support. Last year Cash for Kids helped almost 33,000 children and we are looking like we will have supported even more by the end of this year”.
