With the world’s media in overdrive over the highly anticipated introduction of Google Glass, market leader in laser eye surgery Optical Express has taken a closer look into Google’s latest project, with an insightful infographic outlining the effects the “smart lens” will have on our everyday life.

Google Glass is on its way, and if the rumours are to be believed, with an even earlier release date as glasses are expected to be in store before Christmas 2013. This innovative new wearable headset device is expected to revolutionise mobile communications, but its release has not been without controversy as critics raise questions on its suitability for certain professions and activities.

The heads-up-display smart lens located above only just one eye may look simple, but there is more to it: thanks to a built-in processor, audio speakers, camera, an integrated GPS system and sensors, this lens will guide the user throughout any daily activities. Sharing, posting and messaging friends on social media networks will become available to all users as a hands free function. The integrated GPS allows a full interactive map navigating the user to any destination and offering real time public transportation service information, as well as weather forecast and updated news streams.

For the medical industry, Google Glass is already set to be a life-saving and life-changing supportive tool offering access to journals and helping doctors by providing instant information during patients’ visits.

David Moulsdale, Chairman and Chief Executive of Optical Express says: “Google Glass is the most highly anticipated release of 2013 so we’ve worked hard to help paint a picture for people to see what it’ll be like to wear Google Glass and what this might mean for us and our future vision.

“It may just be a small insight into what the future may look like, but thanks to Google Glass, the prospects for lenses appear promising for us.”
