OptiFreeze takes a big step towards breaktrough
OptiFreeze is taking an important step towards industrial breakthrough with our partner Syngenta, after successful tests with the OptiFreeze technology. As a result of the successful tests the companies have decided to increase the intensity in the common R&D work. OptiFreeze is by that coming closer to an industrial phase in the global market for cuttings.
OptiFreeze and Syngenta have since spring of 2019 been running tests with cuttings on a Syngenta farm outside Nairobi in Kenya. The goal of the tests has been to reach “Proof of concept”. The tests have now confirmed our earlier positive results, and this means we are now one step closer to the industrial phase.
After the successful tests, OptiFreeze and Syngenta have decided to start delivery of cuttings from the farm in Kenya to Syngenta’s rooting station in De Lier, Netherlands for rooting and tests in larger scale. The deliveries are planned to start first week of December.

A cutting is a branch or root part of a plant intended to be plugged into soil or put into water to take root and form a new plant. About 2,5 billion cuttings are produced in the ornamental plant market each year.
Syngenta is a world leading agricultural company with more than 28 000 employees in approximately 90 countries. Syngenta has two main areas for sustainable and profitable farming; seed and crop protection. In February 2019 OptiFreeze entered into a strategic partnership with Syngenta.
OptiFreeze AB has a patented technology that preserves the taste, shape and texture of vegetables, fruits and berries throughout the freezing and thawing process. OptiFreeze has furthermore developed methods that can improve the shelf life of vegetables, fresh cut fruits, flower cuttings, cut flowers and other plants. The same technology can be used to dry fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices aiming to reduce the drying time while preserving the fresh-like taste, smell and colour. The technology opens new business opportunities for food and plant propagation industry all around the world. OptiFreeze is the result of a long period of research at the Institute of Food Technology at the University of Lund.
