  • Orkney-based manager takes up leadership of Opus
  • Fresh chapter in specialist firm’s history
  • Company founder hands over reins

Specialist oil and gas processing company Opus has appointed a new general manager to lead the organisation as it embarks on a fresh chapter in its development.

Glen McLellan, formerly Director of Strategic Operations, has taken over from founder and managing director Nigel Weir who stepped down at the weekend after more than 20 years at the helm.

Bringing a wealth of engineering and managerial expertise to the role, McLellan will now oversee the Orkney-headquartered firm’s development as it looks to build on its success to date.

“Nigel has built this organisation into the success story it is today and we would like to take this opportunity to thank him and wish him all the best in his new projects going forward”, said Rune Fantoft, senior vice president, EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) for Aker Solutions’ Process Systems business.

“We have ambitious plans to increase growth in the process systems business. Glen’s knowledge and experience provide a valuable platform from which we hope to continue developing this unique business as part of Aker Solutions.”

Glen McLellan added: “Nigel will be greatly missed by all at Opus. He started the company single-handedly and his pioneering spirit and innovative mind have helped it grow into an international operation.”

“I am delighted to be taking over where he left off. It is an exciting challenge and one I am absolutely relishing.”

Weir set up Opus in 1993 and developed the company into a multi-million pound global operation employing more than 40 staff at offices in Surrey and Orkney.

Specialists in oil/water/gas separation and treatment technologies for produced water, as well as value-adding solutions for oil and gas producers, the company was acquired by international oil services provider Aker Solutions in September 2013.

“I would like to thank the Opus staff for all their hard work over the last two decades and all of our clients for the excellent collaboration we have enjoyed in that time,” said Weir.

“The success of Opus has been down to all of us working together and I know Glen will lead Opus onto new heights with the aid of our supportive Aker Solutions colleagues.”
