Ordnance Survey staff raise over £7,500 for the RNLI

This week, staff at Ordnance Survey presented the RNLI with a £7,734.90 donation, after 12 months of fundraising activities.

Ordnance Survey started a fundraising campaign in April 2013, to raise money for local lifeboat stations on the Solent Region, including Calshot, Lymington and Cowes.

Over the year staff have been engaged in a wide range of fundraising activities, including 10k running races, a charity football tournament, a lunch-time quiz, Christmas Fayre, a Gala Concert featuring Ordnance Survey’s workplace choir, ‘Off the Scale’, film screenings and the ever popular cake sale.

Roseanne Blaze, Fundraising Manager from the RNLI said: “The generous money raised by Ordnance Survey will allow Calshot, Cowes and Lymington Station to fully train six crew members this year. This will prepare them to go out on a shout in various conditions such as freezing water, choppy waters and torrential rain as well as prepare them for all of the different rescues that they may come across. With 92% of our total income coming from generous donations and legacies, we depend on our dedicated volunteers, supporters and amazing work from groups such as you to save lives at sea. Your support means our lifeboat crews can reunite the 22 people they rescue each day with their families.”

For the next 12 months Ordnance Survey will be supporting Southampton Women’s Aid.
