With the start of the 2014 Friends Life Tour of Britain just weeks away, cyclists and fans can get their hands on this year’s stage maps as Ordnance Survey and SweetSpot release the routes.

The new route maps are available in a range of formats and can be viewed, downloaded or exported as GPX files for mobile devices, allowing cyclists to try out the routes or spectators to pick the best spot to watch.

Ordnance Survey, the official Mapping Partner for the Friends Life Tour of Britain, is pleased to release the full set of route maps for the nine stages of The Tour. This year’s exciting event starts in Liverpool on 7 September and will finish in London with a split final stage on 14 September. On the way to London the elite group of road cyclists will visit a number of towns and cities across the nation including Llandudno, Newtown, the Tumble, Worcester, Bristol, Exeter, Bath, Hemel Hempstead and Brighton.

The new set of maps also show the locations of the YodelDirect Sprints and the SKODA King of the Mountain climbs that riders will tackle during the 1,376 kilometre race.

Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Limited, said: “We have created a complete mapping package for the Friends Life Tour of Britain allowing cyclists and fans to either download and print route maps, view the stages via interactive online OS maps or export GPX files of the stages for mobile devices.”

The GPX files can be imported into the popular OS MapFinder app allowing cyclists to track their progress using a range of Ordnance Survey mapping scales. A unique feature of the fast and easy to use app is the tile download facility, which provides users with the ultimate freedom to choose the maps they want. All maps are stored on the device, meaning they can be used even without a Wi-Fi or mobile signal, improving reliability and the experience of using the maps outdoors. OS MapFinder is free to download on both Android and iOS platforms.
