Sapa has long held a strong position as a local supplier of building systems in several different markets. In pace with the emergence of the new Europe, there has been a development towards building systems with an increased technological content and demands have increased for internationally feasible building systems.

Hans Johansson had a longstanding and prominent career at Assa Abloy, which he joined in 1989. His most recent position at Assa Abloy was as head of the EMEA division, Assa Abloy's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. These operations generated turnover of MEUR 1,200 from the division's over 40 factories.

"Sapa intends to retain its local presence within building systems, while simultaneously pursuing the process of co-ordinating the operations we have in the various markets. The aim is to combine Sapa's strong local presence with the co-ordination potential that an international group offers. The longstanding experience Hans Johansson gained at Assa Abloy will be a great asset within Sapa Building System, since customers and distribution channels resemble each other in several respects. Hans also has solid experience of the integration of acquired units and of how to capitalise on coordination potential," says Kåre Wetterberg, President and CEO of Sapa.

Hans Johansson assumes his new position on May 2.
