Orthex joined the group of international pioneering companies by committing to science-based climate targets set by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). SBTi has approved Orthex’s near-term science-based emissions reduction target, which means that Orthex's climate targets are aligned with the target to keep global warming below 1.5°C in accordance with the Paris Agreement. Orthex aims for its production to be carbon neutral by 2030.

The international Science Based Targets initiative encourages companies to carry out their climate actions in accordance with the emissions reduction targets set out in the Paris Agreement. The Science Based Targets organisation comprises CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), a platform for increasing transparency of carbon related disclosures, the UN Global Compact initiative, the World Resource Institute (WRI), and the environmental organisation WWF.

Orthex has been doing environmental and climate work for a long time already: we have used recycled raw material in our production since the 90s, all our factories are certified according to the ISO 14001 environmental management system, and we have systematically invested in more energy-efficient machines for years. In addition, we switched to using renewable energy in all our factories, thanks to which our Scope 2 emissions were reduced to zero in 2021.

”Sustainability is at the core of our strategy, and it is important that we do everything we can with the already participating companies to achieve our climate targets, based on science, and following the best practices. Next, the main focus of our climate work is on Scope 3 emissions, i.e. our emissions caused by raw materials. We want to give consumers the opportunity to choose more environmentally friendly products and significantly increase the share of renewable and recycled raw materials in our production” says Alexander Rosenlew, CEO of Orthex Corporation.

More information about Orthex's sustainability strategy and goals is available in Orthex's Annual Report.
