Cork, Ireland - At 17.25 BST on the 27th of June, The Islanders rowing team set new a world record in the Great British Row 2013 with time of 26 days, 9 hours, 9 minutes and 58 seconds. The team used OtterBox® Armor Series® cases, the toughest case ever built, to protect their devices from the harsh conditions at sea, enabling them to stay in contact with their coaches as well as tracking and recording times and distances.

Six teams started out from London on Saturday, June 1st, for the Great British Row 2013, the toughest rowing race in the world. Over 2000 miles long, participants endure changeable winds and the most dangerous, fastest turning tides on the planet, completely unaided, whilst circumnavigating the coast of Great Britain. Consisting of Skipper Josh Taylor, 24, Alan Morgan, 23, from Essex, James Plumley, 24, from Guernsey and 25-year-old Gavin Sheehan from Ireland, The Islanders shaved over 12 hours off the previous record set in 2000.

“We can’t begin to describe how important the Armor Series was for us, allowing us to maintain contact with everyone from family and friends to coastguards” said crew member Gavin Sheehan. “The conditions on the boat were extremely harsh and we needed the best possible protection. The Armor Series was invaluable to me when my back was in trouble, as I needed to stay in constant contact with the shore team”

The team will share £100,000 for setting a record time, plus £15,000 for winning the race. They undertook the race in support of their chosen charity, the Evelina Children’s Hospital.
