43rd Ötztaler Cycle Marathon will start on 01 September 2024
Back to the original date is the motto of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon cult race. In order to give all athletes enough time for application, planning and training, the organizers announce next year's event date in advance of this year's event. The 43rd edition of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon with start and finish in Sölden will take place on Sunday, 01 September 2024.
A distance of 227 kilometers, 5500 altitude meters and four Alpine passes. These are the hard facts for almost 4000 participants from all over the world who tackle the Ötztaler myth. One variation in 2023: the earlier date at the beginning of July. For 2024, those responsible have succeeded in organizing the major event again on the usual race weekend at the end of the season. "Last year, we took some measures to improve traffic flow, especially on the South Tyrolean side. For example, in the form of a new route in Sterzing. This commitment has paid off. So we agreed with our partners in South Tyrol to hold the 2024 Ötztaler again on the traditional date," explains Dominic Kuen, OC head of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon.
More preparation time
By holding the event in late summer, the participants benefit from a longer training phase and the opportunity to collect valuable altitude meters on the Alpine passes that are open in summer, such as Timmelsjoch. This is of particular benefit to the large field of hobby cyclists who want to fulfill their personal "dream" as a finisher. They can better spread the necessary thousands of training kilometers over the outdoor season and also complete preparatory races in the run-up to the toughest of all marathons.
Together for the Ötztaler
The high significance of the event in the cycling scene is well known in Sölden. "In the spirit of our great community of athletes, fans and the many indispensable volunteers, we are committed to the success of the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon. This also includes the further development of the event in a harmonious way," says OC boss Kuen. In 2023, this happens through innovations on various levels. Examples include personalized videos for all finishers, ÖRM app, use of reusable cups or entertainment programs for the fans via the popular Ötztaler Cycling Marathon TV on XXL video screens in the start and finish area.
