One week before the ski stars open the Alpine Ski World Cup season in Sölden, the BORA - hansgrohe cycling professionals will end their season. The eagerly awaited first appearance of the famous newcomer Primoz Roglic is also expected at the team camp.

International media are talking about the coup of the year that BORA - hansgrohe team boss Ralph Denk achieved by signing a contract with the Slovenian superstar. Primoz Roglic, who only found his way into cycling at the age of 23 after his ski jumping career, is one of the top stars of the international cycling scene. In his career he has won no less than 80 races, including the Vuelta de España three times, this year’s Giro d'Italia and - in addition to countless classic victories and stage wins in Grand Tours - he was also crowned Olympic champion in the individual time trial in 2021.

The Alpine Ski World Cup Opening takes place in Sölden on 28 + 29 October. One week before, the entire BORA - hansgrohe team will visit Sölden for the annual team camp. This year’s undisputed star is undoubtedly Primoz Roglic. "We are destination partners of the German professional cycling team and will give the entire team a proper welcome. All new athletes will meet their future colleagues at the team camp and, in addition to a ski trip, the team will get to know each other better during several team building activities. We are very much looking forward to Primoz Roglic, who will certainly cut a fine figure on the ski slopes," states Oliver Schwarz, Managing Director of Ötztal Tourismus.

After cycling is before winter
Scenic Ötztal valley offers great sporting events and activities for all types of athletes all year round. Six ski areas - including Sölden, Gurgl and Hochoetz - with a total of 363 slope kilometers and 90 mountain lifts offer pure variety. The Alpine Ski World Cup Opening kicks off Sölden’s event fireworks every year, taking place on 28 and 29 October 2023. Other top events include the Electric Mountain Festival from 8 to 12 April 2024, and Hannibal – The Glacier Spectacle on 05 April 2024. And for the first time, a second Alpine Ski World Cup race will be held in Ötztal: on 18 November 2023, the "Diamond of the Alps" will emphasize its passion for winter sports by hosting a men's slalom race in Gurgl.

The unrivaled summer sports event of the year is the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon, which will take place on 01 September 2024. Some 4,000 participants will be ready to conquer another 227 difficult kilometers from Sölden over four Alpine passes - among them Kühtai saddleback, Brenner Pass, Jaufen Pass and Timmelsjoch - to South Tyrol and back again. Everyone wants to fulfill their personal dream over an unbelievable 5,500 altitude meters. Aside from road cycling, all mountain and gravel bikers also get their money's worth. The ultimate Bike Republic Sölden, founded in 2015, ranks among the most individual bike projects in the Alps – here everything is about fairness, respect and community. A huge network of 18 natural trails, 12 ecologically built shaped lines, 13 enduro trails, 214 km of MTB routes and two pump tracks on the valley floor form a fabulous biking playground boasting a wide range of difficulty levels - embedded in the magnificent backdrop of the Ötztal Alps coupled with infectious bike passion of the locals. And the perfect bad weather alternative for all bikers is Austria's first and only indoor bike park at AREA 47 directly in Ötztal, which opened at the end of April 2023.
