Mountain adventures in Vent in Ötztal: The first real three thousand meter peak is waiting

Report this content

The 3000-meter mark has something magical for true mountain lovers. Conquering it for the very first time is an unforgettable experience. Especially when the summit is reached "by fair means", without a mountain lift and far away from mass tourism. Thanks to the new offer "My first real three thousand meter peak", the mountaineering village of Vent attracts true hiking enthusiasts who want to indulge in high alpine mountaineering guided by an expert, climbing 3606 m high Similaun as a new personal best.

With its unique history of alpinism revolving around the glacier priest Franz Senn, co-founder of the German Alpine Club, the mountaineering village of Vent in the rear Ötztal is predestined to pass on this fascination for high mountains. Encircled by the highest 3000 m peaks and the largest glacier-covered area in the Eastern Alps, the mountain village not only offers a huge variety of tours, but also bundles outstanding mountaineering expertise. Perfect conditions for sportspeople with an affinity for mountains, who want to put their limits to the test and not just literally get to the next level. As part of a guided multi-day package on four dates in summer 2023, like-minded hikers can climb Similaun peak in the border area between Austria and Italy - at 3606 m the eighth highest mountain in Austria.

Absolutely required: fitness, surefootedness, good head for heights

In line with the offer, the participants must not be like Reinhold Messner or Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner to complete the challenge. Basic requirements for this mountain tour are, after all, a good physical condition that allows a daily walking time of 5-6 hours as well as a good head for heights and surefootedness on alpine paths. On the day before the summit conquest, the group undertakes an acclimatization tour including a mountain lift ride in order to get used to the mountain air. Special skills such as knot and rope techniques are also part of this introductory day.

Adventure, team spirit & safety: all in one package

From the group’s joint preparation through tutorials to the presentation of the Similaun Trophy on the closing evening, the participants are professionally supervised, including equipment check, training with ropes and similar equipment as well as personal assistance. Certified hiking guides accompany the group during the entire program, and also the professional mountain guide is almost always on site (on the acclimatization tour, on the evening before climbing the Similaun and during the ascent). Additionally, the package (5 days/4 nights) includes overnight stays in Vent and at Similaun Hütte, most of the meals, a starter pack with useful utensils, mountain lift rides during the acclimatization tour and rental equipment (helmet, crampons, ice ax, harness). An optional highlight is a visit to the site where the glacier mummy Ötzi was found in 1991.
