Outokumpu maintains its membership in the Dow Jones World and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability indexes. This year Outokumpu also received the highest possible score in two sustainability criteria: environmental reporting as well as occupational health and safety.

SAM, the investment company focused exclusively on sustainability investing together with Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd, two leading global index providers, have informed the results of the 2009 annual review for the Dow Jones Sustainability and Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability indexes.

The DJSI follow a best-in-class approach and include sustainability leaders from each industry on a global and regional level respectively. The annual review of the DJSI family is based on a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, branding, climate change mitigation, supply chain standards and labor practices. It accounts for general as well as industry specific sustainability criteria. After deletions and additions based on the 2009 review the number of companies in the pan-European Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability index will be 156 and 317 in the Dow Jones Sustainability World index (DJSI World).

"Even in these challenging times we are committed to act responsibly, and aim to continuously improve our performance. I'm pleased to receive again recognition for our efforts in this area. Membership in Dow Jones Sustainability indexes is important," says Outokumpu's CEO Juha Rantanen.
