The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) recently certified Outokumpu’s Sheffield meltshop quality program in accordance with the requirements of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. ASME develops technical standards for, among other things, pressure vessels and piping in the nuclear industry. The Quality System Certificate (QSC-713) certifies that Sheffield meltshop is a qualified material organization manufacturing ferrous source material for these applications.

The preparation for the certification lasted over two years after which a detailed on-site survey was carried out.

“We are very pleased that we passed the survey without any discrepancies,” explains Richard Firman, Quality Assurance and Laboratory Manager. The certificate is valid for three years, during which ASME will audit once a year without notice to verify that the requirements of the code are being complied with.
