Outokumpu Technology to deliver copper plant for Milpillas Project, in Mexico

Outokumpu Technology, the leading supplier of minerals processing and metallurgical technologies, has agreed with Industrias Peòoles S.A. de C.V., a Mexican zinc and silver mining company, to deliver a new solvent extraction and electrowinning plant for Companía Minera La Parreòa S.A. de C.V. for its Milpillas copper project in Sonora, Mexico. The contract price is over EUR 13 million.

Outokumpu Technology will supply the solvent extraction and electrowinning plants, including the basic engineering, all proprietary equipment and the supervision services during erection and commissioning of the project. The new Milpillas copper plant will be in operation in 2005 and it will produce 45 000 tons of copper cathodes per annum. An expansion to 65 000 tons per annum is planned after the third year of operation.

In September Outokumpu Technology sold a similar kind of solvent extraction/ electrowinning plant to Laos for the Sepon copper project.
