Ovako investing 6 M€ in modernizing main peeling line
Ovako is strengthening its position in the steel industry with a major investment of over 6 million euros to modernize its main Bright Bar facility in Hällefors. The modernization, taking place 2024 - 2026, will improve production efficiency, improve quality, and secure the company’s long-term competitiveness.
Investing in the Future
In the summer of 2024, Ovako upgraded its operations with new cutting, chamfering, and milling equipment. The state-of-the-art machinery replaces older equipment and allows Ovako to handle all machining in-house, reducing unnecessary handling and transportation risks.
“These upgrades enable us to streamline operations and improve efficiency while delivering even higher quality for our customers,” says Filip Gran, Section Manager.
The new equipment, developed in collaboration with trusted partners such as MAIR Research, Svizza, and Caverion, has been thoroughly tested to meet high performance standards.
A New Peeling Lathe in 2026
Building on the success of the 2024 upgrades, Ovako has approved a major investment in a new peeling lathe, set to be operational in 2026, to improve our facility's capabilities. This next phase of modernization will expand the product range, allowing Ovako to offer diameters up to 130 mm, and further improve productivity and quality.
“This investment reinforces our position as a leader in Bright Bar production. It ensures we remain competitive while opening new opportunities for growth,” says Mikael Haraldsson, Production Unit Manager for Bright Bar.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
With these investments, Ovako is reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation. By modernizing its peeled bar operations, the company aims to reduce internal transportation, enhance efficiency, and lower its environmental impact.
Rickard Qvarfort, Business Unit Manager for BU Hofors-Hellefors, emphasizes the critical importance of the Bright Bar production flow to Ovako's profitability. “The recent investments not only secure future operations but also strengthen Ovako's position in the global steel industry” concludes Rickard.
