HARRISBURG, Pa. –The PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) Conference will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at the Hilton Harrisburg Hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Pat Halpin-Murphy, President & Founder of the PBCC, said, “October is breast cancer awareness month, and I can think of no better way to raise awareness about this disease than by bringing together 1,000 breast cancer survivors, family members, legislators and medical professionals. The PBCC Conference continues to be the premier breast cancer conference in the state.”
The PBCC honors four influential breast cancer activists at the 2011 Conference. The Pink Ribbon Award will be presented to Thomas G. Frazier, M.D., F.A.C.S., Medical Director at the Comprehensive Breast Center at Main Line Health - Bryn Mawr, and Mimi Barash Coppersmith, Founder of Town & Gown Magazine; Honorary Chair of the Penn State Lady Lion PinkZone; and a breast cancer survivor.
In addition, the Vivian and Meyer P. Potamkin Foundation Award for Breast Cancer Research will be awarded to Susan Domchek, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and the Director of the MacDonald Cancer Risk Evaluation Program at the Abramson Cancer Center. Rob Ziemba & Jon Jehrio, hosts of the Hanson Brothers grassroots partner hockey event Play It Again for Charity, will be honored with the Shining Light Award.
"Each day, 32 women in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with breast cancer. We are fortunate that the PA Breast Cancer Coalition can provide support, resources and hope to these women and their families,” First Lady Susan Corbett, Conference Honorary Chair said. “I am proud to serve as the Honorary Chair of the PBCC’s Conference and hope that you will attend on October 11th to learn more about breast cancer awareness, advocacy and education!"
Registration for this highly acclaimed conference, which includes a continental breakfast, Pink Ribbon Awards Luncheon and conference tote bag, is $85. Continuing Education credits are also available for nurses. Registration is available online at pbcc.me/Conf.
