Broadband networks made future proof by PacketFront's cost effective solution for single-mode fibre in the last mile The broadband equipment manufacturer PacketFront is launching the first cost effective solution for installation of single-mode fibre all the way to the home (or business). "Due to the high costs of active equipment for single-mode fibre, many of our customers currently build their networks using multi-mode fibre. Most net owners would rather use single-mode fibre, as it in a considerably better way meets the future demands for performance. We are proud to offer a single-mode fibre solution that has an even lower price than the multi-mode solutions on the market", Packet Front's CEO, Martin Thunman, says. PacketFront is now launching two single-mode versions of their broadband routers and multi-service home switches; one short reach version and one long reach. The products are optimal for two categories of operators: those who currently use multi-mode fibre due to the lack of cost effective solutions for single-mode; and those who currently use single- mode and who until now have been required to use external fibre converters. External fibre converters are expensive. Furthermore, they add to the network complexity and require maintenance. With these additions, PacketFront now offers the market's broadest portfolio of purpose built equipment for fibre based broadband networks. The portfolio includes 15 versions of broadband routers, five versions of multi-service home switches and an integrated control- and provisioning system. "Our goal is to offer leading edge solutions for fibre based broadband networks. We aim to keep launching products with intelligent functionality that enable our customers to create differentiated services and keep their operating costs low", Martin Thunman concludes.
