On 19 May, the Danish Parliament passed a new Bookkeeping Act, aiming to mandate all Danish businesses to send and receive invoices electronically.

With the ambition to digitize the economy and reduce tax evasion, Denmark becomes yet another country to enforce e-invoicing. The new Bookkeeping Act, entering into force on 1 July 2022, requires all companies, regardless of size, to issue, receive, process and archive invoices electronically.

“We have followed the developments in Denmark and are excited about the expected boost in digital transformation as a result of the mandate. There is a growing trend of government driven digitalisation and we expect to see more of these announcements in the future”, says Bengt Nilsson, CEO of Pagero.

The timelines for the implementation of the new obligations are dependent on company turnover, with implementation deadlines from 1 January 2024 until 1 January 2026.

The technical requirements will be defined and published by ERST in 2023. Pagero follows the developments in Denmark closely and remains ready to support businesses and software providers with the upcoming obligations in Denmark and outside.
