Region Skåne initiate User Study with Paindrainer AB’s Unique Digital medical device for Patient-Centred Pain Management
LUND, SWEDEN – Paindrainer AB, a pioneer in digital healthcare, is participating in a user study in collaboration with Region Skåne and Lund University. The study is being conducted within Region Skåne’s primary care system, aiming to strengthen care processes, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance the quality of life for patients living with chronic pain.
Paindrainer® offers an advanced digital solution through its PD Care system, consisting of a PD Care portal and an PD Care mobile application. These tools enable healthcare professionals to remotely monitor patient progress in a structured manner over time, allowing for more individualized and effective treatment.
Region Skåne has established guidelines for the management of chronic pain, recommending a person-centered and biopsychosocial approach with interdisciplinary care. For monitoring treatment outcomes, tools such as pain diaries, NRS/VAS scales, or assessments of participation in daily activities are recommended.
“We are pleased to see Region Skåne placing full focus on improving care for patients with chronic pain, aiming to enhance quality of life through digital innovation. At Paindrainer, we have extensive experience in developing medical devices that aligns with Region Skåne’s goals. This study offers Paindrainer a unique opportunity to drive long-term improvements for this patient base,” says Erik Frick, CEO of Paindrainer AB.
Through remote monitoring, healthcare professionals gain deeper insights into how patients’ daily routines impact their health. This new knowledge enables the development of more accurate and fully personalized care plans, ensures adherence to treatment plans, and improves health outcomes. It provides an opportunity to optimize efficiency while enhancing care for patients in their homes.
“We welcome the opportunity to evaluate the use of a digital platform in Region Skåne’s primary care that supports the workflows established by the national care pathway. It is important to study new digital treatment methods in primary care, where most patients with chronic pain are treated,” says Patrik Midlöv, Professor at Lund University.
Paindrainer’s® mobile application is the first AI-driven, evidence-based digital tool to demonstrate improved quality of life for individuals living with chronic pain. The product is FDA registered, and CE marked. Powered by advanced algorithms, it is fully tailored to each patient’s individual needs, thanks to the company’s unique and patented 360° patient-centred approach. This method guides users in achieving personal activity balance to promote optimal functioning and manage chronic pain.

About Paindrainer AB
Paindrainer AB is a company developing digital platforms and applications contributing to health and well-being. Paindrainer was founded in 2018 by Prof. Carl Borrebaeck, Dr. Maria Klement (chronic pain patient herself), and Göran Barkfors (IT specialist). The idea was born when Maria, after participating in several pain rehabilitation programs, realized that the pain is affected by more factors than the human brain can keep track of, since all days are different. Paindrainer® which is completely patient-centric uses advanced calculations based on artificial intelligence to, based on each user’s own data, coach the user in planning their day not to exceed a certain pain level, and to ensure that there is energy left for activities highly valued.
Paindrainer® has clinical evidence, is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), self-management and artificial intelligence (AI). It is CE certified and an FDA Mobile Medical Device Class I with exemption. www.paindrainer.com
