Organisers of new not-for-profit festival Bude for Food announce comedian Patrick Monahan's performance to herald in the harvest

Out to prove a point that North Cornwall has always been awash with eateries other than those televised in Padstow, a committee of committed restaurateurs producers and passionate foodies have organised a food festival with a difference. Not content with bringing together masses of wonderful food and drink in the charming seaside town of Bude, festival organisers indulge their hedonistic side to bring an events program fuelled by music and laughter.

With lashings of free range delight and merriment, they introduce hilarious international comedian, Patrick Monahan to residents and visitors of Bude. With his fusion of Irish, Iranian and Geordie heritage, the comedian will herald in the opening night of the Bude for Food Festival to a lucky crowd of comedy lovers.

Monahan has a reputation of working with “clean and accessible” material; making his audience feel like old friends in minutes. Personable and perky, comedy flows out of this man seemingly effortlessly and his open, honest delivery is a delight to watch. Interaction with the audience – even when he selects people to get up and dance – involves no humiliation or cheap laughs, and he picks well: with a sharp eye for spotting those in the crowd who’ll get into the spirit of things.

His most recent show is aptly named The Cake Charmer, which is a delectable choice, having previously opened a food festival. Monahan is keeping his secrets up his sleeve regarding the opener to this celebration of food and drink, set in North Cornwall's rapidly rising culinary hub. Suffice it to say that his current material has earned him some superb five star reviews in the media.

Emphasising the focus on provenance, handpicked Cornish talent, Dan the Hat will be providing support; juggling this and that…and his hat! A local comedian, magician and all round entertaining guy, Dan’s fast paced show of wild manipulation skills including diablo, yo-yos, balls and possibly the odd child(!); interspersed with his wit and audience interaction will provide a comical counterpoint to the headline act.
