Surfing up a MasterChef of talent
Following the success of its inaugural year, Bude for Food is back with a whole new feast of delights
Now in its sophomore year, Bude’s fresh festival is ready to serve up some epic beats, bust out the belly laughs and deliver more delicious demos.
Rolling out its regal ropes and manicuring its lawns, Bude Castle opens up for its warm up on Friday night to a two day foodie extravaganza on Saturday 19 September and Sunday 20 September. As always, an open invitation to watch tongue tinglingly top chefs create tantalising tasters will be extended to the townsfolk and beyond.
Once again, Cornwall’s foodies are advised to bring empty bellies and full wallets, so as to explore handmade goodies from handpicked artisans. Showcasing the best of what the Westcountry has to offer; from hand harvested local seaweed, to artisan roasted coffee, and from preserves to pasties, the exhibitors tent is set to yet again be packed to the rafters with quality produce.
The Surfing Chef, aka MasterChef 2008 winner, James Nathan from Retallack Resort will be making waves as he cooks some of his winning dishes to entertain crowds. An advocate of provenance, James likes to use nature’s larder and create Cornish cuisine accessible to all.
Hot on his heels, Alistair Fraser from Treburley’s The Springer Spaniel; sister pub to Anton Piotrowski’s Treby Arms; is excited to showcase Cornish produce in multi award winning recipes. Camper Van Cook and leader of the 2 minute beach clean Martin Dorey will take hungry hipsters on an appetising journey, and culinary talent will be exhibited by The Llawnroc’s Steve Marsh, who creates excellent dishes with a focus on provenance.
Masterclasses to improve accessibility of food include the art of foraging with the Eden Project’s Emma Gunn, whose seasonal foraging books Never Mind The Burdocks empower communities through food education. Champion of the Cornish sardine and food accessibility, Sanjay Kumar, will demonstrate food bank cooking. Poised to promote accessibility, the festival fuses a feast of fresh talent with affordable fun for all the family. Activities workshops feed children's imaginations, which, coupled with a play area and baby-change facilities; make it a cost effective weekend option to be sated in sun soaked fun.
Whip crackingly funny Shappi Khorsandi: star of Live At The Apollo; Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow; Friday Night with Jonathan Ross; Have I Got News for You; and Q.I will launch the show with Friday night comedy. Saturday night is party night, as feet shuffling fine beats are provided from Cornwall’s deep well of musical talent in the form of Antimatador and Simon Dobson, plus guests.
